Predicting the shift of the evolving residential market, the residential business hub at West Side Place contributes to the high occupancy rate of the precincts’ newest towers, reprogramming how residents work from home and answering a strong demand for communal workspace in a residential setting.

A shift towards flexible work arrangements and the rise of the digital nomad archetype is having an increasing impact on residential design. For West Side Place, our design team have created a level of workplace amenity previously unseen in high-density residential living. Located across levels 9 and 10 of Tower 3, access is limited to residents within the tower.

Our design delivers a contemporary workplace experience to the residential towers, with each work setting meaningfully conceived to create and add value to residents’ day-to-day needs. The value is in the programming of spaces, allowing each environment to flex towards siloed work, small collaborations, client meetings and larger events.

The materiality and texture are a recognisable connection to the Ritz-Carlton hotel, with a contemporary Melbourne edge. It is a highly considered environment and is a clear manifestation of residential design influencing commercial spaces.

A Workplace that Feels More Like Home

Playing to its ‘lived-in’ aesthetic, artwork and found objects provide residents with a sense of familiarity on their first approach into the space, removing the transient nature of traditional agile workplace settings in favour of a more established and naturally warm setting enjoyed by residents in their own living spaces.

Textural variety is driven by the residential setting, with curved, bronzed metal mesh sectioning off portions of the space for secluded work whilst maintaining and interacting with the larger work floor. There is a calming transition between light and dark spaces, with lighter spaces connected to the podium landscaping and internalised spaces taking on a muted character. Both approaches are timeless, effortlessly assimilating with the exterior architecture.
