A casual family retreat set on a idyllic double block of ocean-front land. The design delivered by Cottee Parker JPRA features strong, primitive architectural influences and bespoke construction – creating a statement house on a sought-after piece of land.
Although contemporary, the feel and design of the house was inspired by the villages and huts of Southern Africa – with mud brick, rough render and white paint all used to achieve this aesthetic. The design is also very open and airy, with lots of wooden poles used throughout the space.
The collaborative design process saw the design team hold many discussions about the best way to execute each design element of the house to deliver this innovative ‘primitive’ design. The end result has seen Sussman house become an outstanding example of contemporary construction and an honest and beautifully-finished home that will stand the test of time.
