Upper West Side

Project Description:

Upper West Side is one of Australia’s largest inner city residential developments, with a project value of $1.4 billion and development GFA of 224,000m2.

The precinct, which has been likened to a vertical suburb, includes 2,275 apartments in four high-rise towers (Hudson, Madison, Manhattan and Midtown) and a large shared podium which boasts over 1 acre of rooftop gardens, outdoor lounge areas, communal kitchen and barbecue facilities, rock climbing facilities, 25m indoor lap pool and sauna, gymnasium, bocce fields, function room and study areas. There are 35 retail outlets at ground level and parking for 880 cars and 60 motorcycles.

The Upper West Side development is located in a premium urban location, close to Southern Cross train station, universities, shops and laneways. The apartments celebrate both history and inner city living on the site of the old coal power station – which fronts Lonsdale, Spencer and Little Bourke Streets.

Melbourne’s famous laneway culture was also enhanced with Rose Alley extended to join Little Bourke and Lonsdale Streets and a second laneway which cuts underneath Tower 1 from Spencer Street to Lonsdale Street with boutique retail and dining.

The project incorporates grey water recycling for irrigation, controls and stores all on-site stormwater and includes water supply holding tanks to ensure uninterrupted fresh water reticulation. The project was the first Multi-Residential 4 Star Green Star Accredited project for Design.
