Designed for two surfing families, these hilltop houses command 180° ocean views from their desirable site at Point Lookout on Stradbroke Island. Cottee Parker Architects were able to create a design that combines comfort, luxury and nature-inspired design elements to create an idyllic lifestyle for each resident.
Inspired by the natural beauty of the site’s surrounds, the design reflects the environment both in built form and in material and colour palette. The north-facing decks are suspended and cantilevered high above the natural landscape to offer stunning views of the original Point Lookout beach shack.
The design ensures that the duplex is well positioned to absorb the south-easterly winds and afternoon sun, while the split platform levels of the project overlap to create a compact plan arrangement that deliberately follow the natural contours of the land.
The innovative design of the Straddie Duplex was awarded a 2001 RAIA Regional Commendation and a 2001 QMBA Award.
