Step-Up, Step-Down Units (SUSDU) Mackay

Project Description:

As the third Step Up, Step Down Unit (SUSDU) to be developed in Central Queensland, the Mackay SUSDU was an elevated single storey building at 742m2 with 10 private beds.
Located on a site impeded by overland flow requirements, the Mackay SUSDU are set on a 1500mm high platform giving it the appearance of a large elevated Queenslander in a residential setting in West Mackay. Following the same methodology as Bundaberg and Gladstone, private rooms, staff areas with passive surveillance and flexible break out spaces branch of a communal open plan area. Mutliple covered terraces provide views over the landscaped backyard or to the rich established trees in the area. High ceilings and generous openings allow for cross-ventilation and create a bright and welcoming environment.
Given the development of three Step Up, Step Down facilities, we are well experienced in the complications of providing a durable and anti-ligature design with a homely and welcoming feel.
