A collaboration between the Brisbane and Melbourne-based offices of Cottee Parker Architects, Proximity is a contemporary, 14-storey multi-residential complex that offers 127 apartments as part of the renowned Hamilton Portside Development. Bordering the Brisbane River, Proximity’s architecture is inspired by water erosion around an object.
A rust-coloured feature screen reinforces the themes of moving water, with the interior foyer also resembling a wave by transitioning from a double to single volume space within. Mailboxes in the foyer feature a variety of aged metal finishes, randomly arranged to act as an artwork and feature piece.
The long, thin complex site meant that the building’s core had to be located on the perimeter. Due to this unique site detail, all apartments are shallow and have excellent light and views from all living and bedroom spaces.
