Following an extensive refurbishment of the popular Maroochy RSL, our design team reimagined the entry and gaming room experience at the club, taking cues from the popular beach and resort destination to contextualise the site with a new contemporary energy. To minimise disruption to the venue, the refurbishment was undertaken across two stages – the gaming floor and the entry experience.

The interior of the gaming centre has been completely reworked, with the new layout providing a 250sqm capacity increase to the existing facility. At the entrance, a screening with brass rods begins a motif carried through to the gaming interior. Cladding the existing columns with brass rods and lighting both recessed into the ceiling creates dramatic moments within the interior and act as landmarks throughout the gaming floor. The cashier is another hero moment, with the staff counter channelling a casino energy wrapped in a dramatic LED screen. The digital display provides flexibility to the venue operator, with the display becoming a flexible marketing tool across the gaming floor to connect the gaming experience to the wider offering of the venue.

The previously low ceiling heights are raised, with ceiling cut-outs exposing the services camouflaged in black paint and clusters of acoustic panelling, providing a textural detail that defines pockets of gaming areas. The pockets are further delineated by a subtle glow of gaming machine footlights, which can operate in tandem with other lighting features to create a dramatic expression across the venue.

The interior is characterised with contextual materiality; the natural surroundings of sand, sea, flora and fauna combined to deliver a gaming experience with a subtle nod to the destination nature of the venue while remaining authentic to the style of venue and social setting.
