Great Barrier Reef House

Project Description:

The eye-catching plans for a marine centre of excellence along Townsville’s prime waterfront can now be revealed. The brief was to design a building that would celebrate Townsville’s world-leading expertise in marine science and North Queensland’s relationship with the Great Barrier Reef. The development has been designed to provide state of the art facilities for research, learning and culture – located between the Cultural Museum and Reef HQ.

Great Barrier Reef House would contain a Marine Science Centre of Excellence, made up of the leading authorities, along with offices, waterfront restaurants, an amphitheatre and public plaza. Cottee Parker have been engaged for several years to complete optioneering and detailed planning for the site, with a focus on transforming the precinct through seamless connections to Reef HQ, the museum, Ross Creek, the CBD and the Strand.
