A historic warehouse in Chippendale has been adapted for a mixed-use development including ground floor retail premises, a café and bicycle storage with lockers and shower facilities. An additional level will also feature four residential apartments. Ground floor carparking provides 7 car spaces using a mechanical shuffler and 4 bicycle parking spaces. The pared-back approach to the internal design of the industrial warehouse celebrates the existing timber beams, posts and floors within the building.
The open plan spaces create flexible commercial suites that can be subdivided into small or large tenancies. A central void provides light, visual connection and interactivity between the commercial floors with a feature glass lift and open steel framed stair access. This adaptive re-use is intended to provide a vibrant mixture of use within the building – ground floor retail and cafe, smaller offices on the first floor to attract small creative start-up industries and two larger office suites on the second floor for larger tenancies. The residential accommodation on the top floor will function as a separate component of the building, with separate entry lift lobby and stairs.
