F&B Ritz Carlton

17th March 2020

Cutting a striking silhouette along the Swan River, The Ritz-Carlton, Perth evokes timeless luxury and the joy of discovery. Set within the stunning building on Elizabeth Quay are two of Perth’s newest and highly anticipated socials spaces, Hearth Restaurant & Lounge and Songbird Bar & Lounge. The beauty and bounty of Western Australia are celebrated through not only the culinary experiences but through the design of these social spaces.

Cottee Parker collaborated with the hotel’s appointed F+B designer, AND Associates, Hong Kong to carry their concept design through development and delivery phases. The design for the social spaces takes a progressive approach to hotel dining, benefiting from operational integration with the hotel, but through their interior design distinguishing themselves from the remainder of the hotel.

Hearth

As the hotels all-day dining and lounge offering Heath Restaurant’s design is distinctly different to the warm tones of the Ritz Carltons interior design. Soft curves and blue tones speak to Perth’s beach culture while gold highlights and Versailles inspired parquetry lend a European edge.  It is a deliberate play to attract external patronage and compete with other food and beverage options around the Quay.

Attached to the entry of the restaurant and opening onto the Quayside Promenade is Hearth Lounge, replacing the generic lobby bar with a signature space to complement the dining room. Hearth Restaurant acts as a unified reference to pan-cultural traditions of hosting. The name, Hearth, embodies a ubiquitous human instinct to protect and honour a guest, symbolised in both Aboriginal and European cultures through the home fire. This symbolism is carried through the entry experience with the fireplace acting as a stand-out aspect of this revitalised hotel lobby bar. This feature immediately sets the residential tone for the space and lowers the centre of vision to encourage people to sit in the plush sofas and armchairs scattered throughout, greeting guests in a warm and inviting environment. The bar at the opposite end of the room incorporates a feature joinery piece to balance and bookend the space.

Song Bird

The rooftop location of Songbird Lounge & Bar combines the hotel’s three key themes – local food and wine, nature and sunset – to create an overarching theme that conveys a profound sense of place. Songbird’s stand-out aspect is its outdoor multilevel terrace, inspired by the cliffs of Santorini, where locals and visitors gather to view stunning waterside sunsets.

The entire glazed bar takes advantage of its commanding view over Elizabeth Quay, the hotel’s scenography group took inspiration from the natural themes of the hotel design and combined this with local food and beverages to create their sunset hour.

The outdoor fire pit is lit and visitors perch around the rooftop gardens and pool to enjoy the twilight.  The Interior Design combines polished stainless steel finishes of the external terraces with blue and gold finishes.
